10-15-2009, 6:05 PM nxdrudegirl Joined on 09-01-2005 nodoubtaholic Posts 247 Re: Songs/Books/Shows that Mention Gwen Stefani and No Doubt I've been searching for this for years!  I finally found it.  Anyone remember the secret world of Alex Mack?  The actress that plays the lead character, Larisa Oleynik happens to be a HUGE ND fan.  They did an episode of Alex Mack where they try to form a band.  The whole episode she's emulating Gwen in style...  Their band plays a song called "Cellophane Friend" which is weirdly coincidental seeing as Cellophane Boy was not even written yet.  The song sounds like some really bad No Doubt inspired song (very grungey JAG)  I remembered this episode so well because I totally picked up on it!  You can watch it here: http://www.bigvidpro.com/?v=GDqX68OfKtzQSpbJke2h7A Moments to watch for: 5:20 - first time you hear the song 7:00 - Gwen's red lipstick 11:40 - The song again, subtle things remind you of TK era.. 12:29 - her outfit.. 20:00 - their big performance.  I could swear Gwen had a similar white fur jacked sometime during the TK era..  her movements near the end of the song are also very Gwen. "Larisa is also a huge music fan. No Doubt is her absolute fave and the group's energetic singer Gwen Stefani is Larisa's idol. Larisa even went to a recent No Doubt show and paid homage to Gwen in her own special way. "I love to have fun wth makeup. I was sportin' full-on red lips and red nails like Gwen," Larisa confides. It was a blast because Larisa is almost never a glam girl- she only goes all out for special occasions!" -16 Magazine, 1997 I spy an ND sticker! I also remember her old website had an image of her looking into a mirror and seeing Gwen in the mirror instead of herself.. I just thought this was notable.. and I thought I'd never find that episode of Alex Mack again! LURK!    Report

He says that:  The Clash's major contribution to punk bands was that you could be a rock group who can play both reggae and ska. It says: "Both bouncy punks Rancid and jaunty popsters No Doubt have a lot of Clash in them in this respect. Rancid have worked with The Specials and The Mighty Mighty  Bosstones while No Doubt's Just a Girl is a song The Selecter would kill to have written." That's all I say, I say no more So please don't ask for an encore!    Report

I'm sure they would be proud to be named next to them. And I can't help but notice or look for Gwen/ND related things every time I see Larisa now. She hasn't been in anything in awhile.. but she was in 10 Things I Hate About You, which featured Save Ferris and Letters to Cleo. I realize that's not directly ND related.. but still interesting to note. She certainly has various little things that give her away as an ND fan. Which makes me love her! I need to see if I can't find that old picture of her on her website maybe on the waybackmachine/internet archive thing.. I'll link it if I find it. LURK!    Report
