dear no doubt forumers,
when your internet friends exceed your real friends it's time to turn off the computer and rethink how you are living your life.

hrmm. i dunno. i disagree with that. i have a lot of friends here. but i have lots of internet friends too. internet people are real. hell, i'm real and have feelings..so, i'm assuming other people are too.
i remember having penpals growing up.. they were people i never met either.. but they were still my friends and important to me.

sorry, my two cents. :D

Hehe that is totally how I feel. For some reason, internet friends aren't REAL friends...people disconnect them from reality. But they ARE real. I also don't think it's all that dangerous to meet people online. I mean if you meet your cybering partner after a few weeks in a dark alley...you're an idiot. But really, meeting an online person in real life is just like meeting someone else in real life, you just have to make sure you don't give them your complete trust; it's the same as if you were meeting a stranger. Then you can analyze the situation and test the waters....
But yea...I'm not saying this because I'm online a lot, which I am....(I DO have more real life friends than online friends I think)...
When Zach still came here, right before he left, he said something like he respects me but he doesn't consider me a friend at all. And it was so weird because we had completely different feelings about it...I had considered him a friend of sorts...he said he felt no connection...and it only came out then.

Zach was cool, but was far too cerebral, and I was put off by it.
I think if you try and split your "Internet friends" and "real friends" you're just gonna make something already complicated into something unmanageable and somebody, most likely you, will get hurt.
So yeah. It's not "internet" or "real" that matters - but "friend".

The only real friends I have are probably online friends. I don't have friends in person because I am so shy.

okay dont twist my words... if you read my whole post you'd see that I clearly find someone I met online to be a real friend (well, much more but you get my point).... It's just that you need people who you can see and spend time with on a daily basis too. Crying into your keyboard isnt nearly as comforting as crying on someone's shoulder. And some people lack that completely....

Video conferencing is fabulous. ;))))))
But seriously.. i'm not arguing with you. It's ok that you think that. I was only saying that i disagree with that... One of my best friends moved away to the states and we basically only talk via internet for the past 4 years.. so, does that lessen our friendship? Or is it still ok because we knew eachother first..? You see what i'm getting at?
Friendships are friendships.. regardless of what the circumstances are. That's my take on it.
Mind you, some of my friends here leave a lot to be desired.
I still have good friends, true friends, social friends.. etc. and it's great! I'm very social and i enjoy hanging out with them all. But i still value my online friends.. and i would hope they valued my friendship as well. i'm not just sitting on here talking to a box letting out my feelings.. so, i hope it's not all in vain. :X
