On the 11th annual Transgender Day of Remembrance, the Gender Identity
Project is partnering with many other community organizations to pay
tribute to those who have lost their lives to anti-transgender
violence.
WHAT: Transgender Day of Remembrance Commemoration
WHERE: The Center, 208 West 13th Street, New York, New York
WHEN: Friday, November 20, 6 pm - 10 pm
Our partner organization, Transgender Legal Defense and Education
Fund (TLDEF), notes the particular poignancy of this year's Day of
Remembrance as it comes on the heels of the one year anniversary of
Lateisha Green's shooting death in Syracuse, New York. Her killing led
to New York State's first-ever hate crime conviction stemming from the
death of a transgender person. It was just the second such conviction
in United States history.
