Of course you can blame the record companies, they're being greedy assholes. Ellen's show didn't use the songs for profit or exploitative purposes, hell, if anything she was promoting their music.

Absolutely. I remember she played Madonna's "Give it to me" beforehand but who cares? It's a TALK show, which really does make it different than in a normal show.

This has nothing to do with Ellen, it has to do with the show itself, which to me is logical. HELLO PEOPLE, they're called copyright laws for a reason!!! i don't understand why you guys are mad. Sometimes there are huge law suits over a technicality or something very ambiguous, and that is certainly a situation which merits disdain. But this is clearly not the case. The show broke copyright laws, thats serious stuff. I can't just go and run a red light because i am the only one at the intersection. I'm sure the ellen D show wasn't trying to make a profit or exploit anything or even be unlawful, but the law is the law. Can you imagine the chaos there would be if nobody followed copyright and trademark laws? that would be borderline communism.

Bull. Of course there is a need for copyright laws, but it's not that black and white when it comes to claiming "damages." It's one thing to press charges on copyright grounds if one side is being exploited or harmed in some way, but in this case, their greed is transparent and disgusting.

What i dont get is why now? Isnt she on her 6th or 7th season? Did it take them this long to notice.

Exactly. It'd be one thing if it was played on a non-talk show to promote or follow the theme of the show - you definitely need permission for that - but as for playing a snippet to dance on your own talk show is absolutely ridiculous.
