i mean why would she release something that that loyal fans clearly want and is important to them? lol

What I've figured out is wether we're talkin about Gwen or No Doubt, every major band is ran from a bussiness point of view. Everything from DVD's to what songs they play at their shows are sadley NOT taylored to the desires of their loyal fans. In the meeting room they don't sit down and ask "what would our loyal fans want", they sit down and ask "What's best for our bussiness", it's all marketing.

If they played shows for loyal fans then they wouldn't play nearly as many singles, they're playing for the masses, for the majority, for the average consumer not the loyal fan. If No Doubt were a less Pop band then they wouldn't have much of a choice, but to play what loyal fans want and less from what a bussiness wants, because Less popular bands rely more heavily on their core loyal fanbase, but Pop bands don't, they rely more on the average consumer.

That's the whole reason a band like 311 plays less singles and more what loyal fans want, because they rely more on a loyal underground fanbase because they don't have as much of a mainstream audience, but with No Doubt's the exact opposite with No Doubt most of those who buy their tickets/Music are average mainstream consumers and less is from the loyal hardcore fanbase, so they taylor whatever they do to what the masses want not the loyal fans. Sad, but true. It all comes down to bussiness.

Jeez you make it sound like ND is some terrible band it its fans or something... they played lots of singles for this tour because there was no new album, and they needed to test the waters.  You can't expect them to come back from a long break and play lots of album-only songs as a "comeback."  It was important for them to remind everyone that, yes, all these hits are by one band, and so that they could find out if they still HAVE a big fanbase.  Obviously they realized pretty quickly that they had lots of the same loyal fans as before since they started throwing in occasional songs like DJs, TK, etc.  And it's not even like all the singles they played on that tour are instantly recognizable to the masses; how many people do you really think have recently heard Excuse Me Mr. or Running on the radio?  The whole reason for the tour was to see their fans and be inspired by them!  If they were really were simply tailoring this tour to the masses they would have played Gwen songs...

ROS would be absolutely amazing... even though we won't ever hear TSE songs again, the video quality (and quantity) for that tour is much much greater than ROS.  A lot of the awesome songs from that album seem to only be available in crappy videos ):

For around 30 bucks I bought a bootlegged DVD of the ROS show in Japan 2000, it included interviews and the footage was awesome. I bought at Black Hole Records in Fullerton,CA.

Believe me I practically worship No Doubt, they've also opened me up to many other artists that later became favorites, I've met them, been a fan since the late 90's and seen many times since. I understand that they had to change their set lists on the 2009 because of no new album and the fact it had been so long. As unique and original as NO Doubt is, they're still tied down to the rules that Interscope lay out, they still have to stick with the business model that is Marketed by the label. Part of my opinion comes from a converstation I had with Donnie Spada at the Irvine shows. I asked him why ND plays the songs they do and why 311 play the songs they play the songs they do. Donnie said a similar thing you said, but also he told me that it depends on the type of fans. Like, most of 311 fans are older college age stoner fans, and a lot of No Doubt fans are the younger fans.

I've attended 10 311 concerts and 9 No Doubt concerts. I noticed that 311 would play more variety of mix of old school songs and non-singles and didn't play nearly as many radio singles. I know No Doubt has more hit singles then they do, but my point was that even on the Return Of Saturn tour they didn't play that many songs that only hardcore old school fans would know. Point is if they suddenly busted out a bunch of songs from Beacon Street or some from EIT, then most of the fans would be clueless as to what's going on, so they play the ones they know. And most of their set on this last tour was songs that were on the Singles Collection that was released 2004.
